5 ways to Deal with Bullies

When I was in school, I constantly got teased & bullied. I got called anorexic & bulimic all the time. People would say I was hideous & too skinny. I would come home crying to my mom everyday. I was so miserable and felt like an outcast among my classmates.
As much as I would cry and wish things were different, the kids continued to call me names. This is a huge part of my story and I talk more about it in my book, I'm No Angel.
That was before I knew Jesus.
Had I known of His great love for me at the time, I may not have let the thoughts of others affect me so much. (But that's the beautiful thing about it, right?)

I now know that He loves me unconditionally no matter what. He finds me beautiful everyday. When the world tells me I'm not good enough by their standards, He shows me that I'm more than enough to Him. We will only be on this earth with people who tease us for a short time but we will spend eternity with our savior who loves us. Once I realized that, it was easier to let the words of others pass through me and not hurt me. Jesus sees us as more worthy than rubies. Having dealt with bullying for multiple years I now know the pain that it causes. Here are my tips for dealing with bullying in school.

1. Jesus accepts you and loves you. You are worthy in His eyes. Once you realize and appreciate His great love for you, it will be easier for you to see yourself the way He sees you. I encourage you to focus on how accepted you are in Christ rather than finding acceptance in the people of this world.

2. Pray... Prayer is powerful!!! Anytime I am feeling down, hurting, or am confused I just pray. I bring my anxieties to the Lord. I lay my hurting heart at His feet because I know that He is loving and knows what is best for me. Praying for the heart of those who are teasing you is also an amazing way to find comfort.

3. Treat everyone around you with love and kindness. Even the kids who are bullying you. It's incredible how much your heart changes and how you will view life differently when you treat people who desire to hurt you in a way that is against the grain.

4. Get involved with a small group at church or a group of girls who you can "do life with" and who can encourage you. We were made to have relationships for a reason. I have a group of women at church who have been so amazing in my life and who I know I can turn to in times of trial.

5. Forgive. This one is so important. We have been forgiven for our sins even though we do not deserve it. Jesus asked Gods forgiveness for the men who were murdering him as he lay nailed to the cross. If that doesn't show the importance of forgiving others I don't know what does. There is healing in forgiveness.

Whenever I'm struggling with others saying bad things about me, I rejoice. Because of these verses:

"Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" (2 Timothy 3:12)

"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."(Matthew 5:10)

And always keep this on your mind The Lord may be allowing you to go through times of hardship to make you stronger. To help you grow as a person.

I'm thankful I had to deal with people who wanted to hurt my feelings because there was a purpose for it. Gods good purpose. To make me a stronger, better person. Who can now help others.

How have you dealt with bullying?

What are some of the bible verses that help you in times of trials?
