My Home Birth Experience

Apr 21, 2014

I welcomed my first child, Jase Michael Bisutti, into the world on January 21, 2014. And the first person to ever hold him was his Daddy!

My husband delivered our little angel in our tub and baby Jase went right from my husbands arms up onto my chest! And we both sat there with tears running down our eyes and smiles on our faces as we gazed upon his little face.

The three of us sat there in the tub together in silence as we got to love on our little angel for the first time! It was one of the most intimate experiences of my life and it was in that exact moment that I knew wholeheartedly just how much my husband loved me! People say kids can tear families apart but I have never been so close to my husband and have never felt so loved until our baby boy was born and we had this experience!

Here is my story!

Before I even got pregnant I was drawn into watching a documentary on Netflix called The Business of Being Born.

I believe that The Lord was guiding me to watch this because my husband and I weren't even sure we could have a baby at that time because I was diagnosed with PCOS ( basically makes it hard to conceive naturally ) so I wasn't watching it because I was researching for having a child of my own. But after watching the documentary, I was convinced that if I ever was able to get pregnant naturally and by Gods grace, I would have my baby at home and not in a hospital. The documentary talked about all of the positive reasons to have a baby outside of a hospital environment and in a more natural place and without the use of medications and I immediately became a big advocate for home birth and natural delivery. I am not saying that it is wrong to have a baby in a hospital. I'm saying that it became my desire and preference after watching this documentary and praying about it.

So, needless to say... About two months after watching the documentary God gave me a gift!!! I was pregnant!

I immediately started researching the midwives in my area so that I could plan for a home birth. My husband was fully supportive and super excited to do it at home especially when he found out he could be the one to deliver our child. The first midwife I met with was the one that I knew I wanted to be there for me while I have birth! Her name is Michele and I have to say I don't think I could have done it without her support! She was amazing and I believe God put her in our lives purposefully and I'm so grateful to Him for bringing her to us!

My husband and I decided we wanted it to be a surprise whether it was a boy or girl so we never found out until baby Jase was in my husbands arms!

My husband and I were in bed one night close to my due date when I thought my water broke! We called Michele and she told me to wait until my contractions were close together to have her come over... Long story short, it was a false alarm! But before we knew that, Michele came over the next morning to see how i was progressing! I was dilated some so she stayed to make sure everything progressed...  But after an entire day passed, I was not progressing much so Michele figured out that my waters had not actually broken so she began manually dilating me... Which was quite painful but not as bad as a migraine headache I would say. I ended up progressing little by little and the next morning things began to pick up. The pain still wasn't as bad as my worst period cramps or a migraine headache until I reached and 8 dilation and my waters really broke. Then things got more intense... From the time my waters broke at an 8 to the time I had baby Jase, my husband told me it was only an hour and a half, but during the pain I thought it was about 6 hours :) there wasn't ever a time in the pain that I desires to get an epidural though... Mike and Michele were constantly talking me through it and Mike was kissing me and holding me and telling me I could do it every step of the way! I also had pictures of mike and I all over in our room and scriptures as well to focus on. I talked to God ALOT during it all... When it came time to push I felt like it was time to get into the tub which was surrounded by wedding pictures or mike and I. Mike got in with me and stared into my eyes and helped me through each push and as baby Jase was born he caught him and said its a boy, sweet baby Jase as tears filled his eyes!

He brought him up out of the water and onto my chest to hold him and he didn't even cry he just laid in my arms and opened his eyes and we all stared at him!  I couldn't have been more happy with the experience of it all and with my husband and I being able to be the first ones to touch and hold him.

We then got out and cleaned him up and we were able to go right to our own bed and I nursed him and held him! It was so perfect and such a gift from the Lord! I'm so thankful we were able to have him at home! I cannot express enough how much more intimate it all was! It was an experience of a lifetime in such a good way!!!
